Subaru Outback

Depending on your view, the Outback is either A) An all-wheel-drive wagon with extra ground clearance or B) A slightly closer-to-earth crossover. The standard powertrain is a 2.5-liter flat-four-cylinder with a six-speed manual; a CVT is optional. A 3.6-liter flat-six is available with a five-speed automatic, and all-wheel drive is standard on all models. The Outback may not be sporty, but it is excellent both on- and off-pavement.
