Chevrolet Volt

When the Volt was launched for 2011, we named it to that year’s 10Best list. Why? Because as a plug-in hybrid, it really works, offering enough electric-only range for most daily-driving (around 30–35 miles), and a gas-powered engine that takes over propulsion duties for longer drives. The aero styling isn’t for everyone, nor are its futuristic, touch-screen controls. Like most hybrids, it’s not truly fun to drive. But it is definitely a livable alternative to battery-only EVs.
